Our Manifesto

As a catering company, we know the exact ingredients that go into making an excellent curry, squash soup or jambalaya. But we also know there’s a similar science behind serving that food, choreographing a special event and working together as a well-tuned, finely synchronized team. At whistler cooks, what we do is a recipe where five important ingredients come together.
Pride: appreciate everything that goes into homemade food. Whether you’re 5,000 miles away from home or just 50, we know there’s something reassuring and comforting about home cooking. Commitment to exceptional quality of service and menus; we believe our success lies in the personal touch and direct contact we have with our clients. This is true of the all staff here at whistler cooks. We are very proud of the food we serve; it is made with passion and care and delivered to the clients in a courteous, knowledgeable and professional way.
Green-ness: handle whistler (and the planet) with care. Sustainability is a big deal in this town, which means we’re always looking for more ways to keep things green. The community of whistler defines sustainability using the four basic principles of the natural step framework that were adopted by the municipality and a number of community organizations in 2000. Useful at all levels of decision-making; these are science-based, concrete and non-overlapping principles for achieving a sustainable society. Whistler Cooks catering is the only food and beverage company that is a partner with the whistler 2020 sustainable task force.
Our business has recently completed a sustainability audit prepared by green table network (a vancouver based non profit association, targeting its efforts at our industry) and our assessment report and evaluation determined that in each of the 5 areas; solid waste and recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, pollution prevention, and sustainable purchasing Whistler Cooks has met and often exceeded green table’s minimum sustainability requirements. Our plan is to evolve our sustainable plan by at least 10% a year, and with partner assistance we hope to move even faster towards being carbon neutral. Since green table’s report we have implemented all our disposable service wares to be 100% biodegradable. As well we now have a fully functioning recycle program and compose all food matters.
Character: act like a local. Here’s how that looks. We’re friendly and helpful. We rarely look flustered. We get the job done, but we’re laid back while we do it. We’re happy because, well, we’re here, living and working in this incredible setting.
We have a huge stake in the success of our company as a family living here and planning on living here for many years to come. As a local business we have gained an excellent reputation and relations with our fellow businesses and community members. We enjoy preparing menus that offer a mix of contemporary and traditional foods, always highlighting local producers and producing food of the highest quality.
Passion: find what motivates you. Inside everyone at whistler cooks is a spark of inspiration that keeps them ladling, chatting, serving, chopping, dishing and smiling day after day. Grant and Hilarie encourage all their staff to find that little something that motivates them and to hold on to that motivation. This type of coaching makes for the most passionate staff in town.
Soul: we know we are serving more than food and always keep in mind that you’re feeding people’s souls just as much as you’re feeding their bodies.
